Not quite as prickly as last time…

After a long hard day at work, some with OFSTED inspections, Hillcrest B2N ladies were pumped for the game against our old rivals, Hawthorns.

Initially, we started incredibly well. Last time we faced Hawthorns, it was possibly a 40 goal loss for us, and after the 1st 6 minutes, we were only down by 2. By this point, we were absolutely hungry for the win! Some changes were made, and Hawthorns sussed out our game, and began to show their experience by increasing the gap even further, and Hillcrest – though putting up a great fight – just couldn’t stop turnovers or the flow of goals.

Perhaps an “unofficial” player of the match (because we forgot to do it) could be shared between Libby Campbell-Bowler and Alice Eastwood, whose incredible defending and teamwork prevented Hawthorns from using the same pass into their shooters, plus a great use of their awesome height and stretches over the ball really put off the shooters, and prevented MANY goals from going in. Everyone put in 110% - it was great to see how fluid our own play had become, plus we also reflected all of Clare’s great teaching in our tactics, patience and spacing on court.

Hopefully our rematch against them in the not too distant future will enable us to get our first win this season.
