Thursday 13th November played host to the first Hillcrest Back to Netball friendly of the year against the brand new club, Ace. It also saw the return of legends Tracy, Sarah and Emma – who, with the current players and newbies helped Hillcrest put up a brilliant fight for their first game.

Although brand new on the night, the game saw some brilliant shooting from Amy (GA/GS) - and current player Karen (GS/GA) – who both worked impeccably in the circle: rebounds were fought for; interceptions were made; movement around the circle ensured their positions were close enough to shoot – nonetheless, some brilliant, far away goals were also scored. Sarah (GS/GK) also used Coach Clare’s words of wisdom in the circle, and improved her shooting and defence techniques throughout the game.

Defence was also strong – new girl (WD) along with Lorraine(GD) and captain Laura (GD/WD) made some excellent interceptions in the centre court, and Emma at GK fought strongly for any rebounds from the Ace shooters. Recent joiner Stephanie (WD) also used her spacing incredibly well to fight off her opposition.

Attack also saw some highlights – with Sophie (C/WA/GA) utilising Tracy’s and Ruth’s undeniably fast movements (WA/C) to get the ball into the circle for the girls to shoot.

Karen was player of the match!

In true Hillcrest B2N fashion, we rotated positions and interchanged players with the other team to make it more fun – and although the score at the end was 24-14 to Ace, we know that after a few more sessions of playing with each other, a little more work on technique, developing continuity during matches and maintaining focus throughout the game, we will chase those Aces and defeat them!
